This page explains the two options for doing your essay conferences online.

You may do either a text-based online conference or an online video conference. Indicate on the conference schedule which of these modes you'd like to do your conference in.

text-based online conferences
You may do a text-based online conference through America Online Instant Messenger (AIM) (if you have a Mac OS X computer, you may also use your AIM account to do a conference through iChat AV), Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk or Skype. On the conference schedule, just indicate which of these services you would like to use and what your screen or account name is (if you'd rather not post a screen or account name, just e-mail it to me).
  • If you choose to do your conference through AIM, see the tutorial titled "How to Do a Text-Based Online Conference through AIM" which is linked to in its various forms under the "how-to" section of the Lectures for CPN 101 page.
online video conferences
If you have a webcam and an account with America Online Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger, ICQ or Skype, we can do an online video conference (if you have an AIM account and a Mac OS X computer with a webcam, you may also do a video conference through iChat AV). On the conference schedule, just indicate which of these services you would like to use and what your screen or account name is (if you'd rather not post a screen or account name, just e-mail it to me).

Before your conference begins, make sure that you have your first draft of your essay available to you either printed out or on your screen. Then be logged on to your service right before the start time of the conference, and soon you will receive a message from me to begin.
